How to pick a watermelon
You want to find the melon that is heavy for its size. This usually means it will be sweeter and will have more water content. At the bottom of the melon, you will find a patch that is called the field spot. This spot can vary in color, the color can indicate ripeness and sweetness.
Creamy Orange – the perfect watermelon
Darker Yellow – on the vine longer and is full of flavor
White – not ripe
Dark Brown or has larger “webbing” or “sugar spots” – a very sweet melon
